  • WIVETON PARISH COUNCIL NEEDS YOUR HELP

Wiveton Parish has vacancies for two new Councillors.  Any parishioner who has lived or worked in the village for more than 12 months can apply.

It is a great opportunity to contribute to this very special village. As a parish councillor, you become someone your community will look to for help, guidance and support, a community leader with the power to influence decisions for the benefit of the people you serve.

Seeing your community change for the better as a result of decisions you have helped make, is something that will give you a sense of achievement and pride.

    The role mainly involves:

    • Attending PC Meetings – normally 10 a year
    • Receiving reports from District and County Councillors
    • Approving expenditure of parish funds
    • Commenting on planning applications
    • Managing and contributing to village maintenance and projects
    • Looking after the interests and welfare of residents

As you know Wiveton is a small parish of 127 people, 74 households, (Census 2011) but It is geographically a very large parish stretching from Blakeney Freshes to Glandford and beyond

Wiveton Parish Council is responsible for helping to protect this special area. It is in the Norfolk Coast AONB and includes many other sensitive sites eg Wiveton Down and SSSIs. It is committed to the Dark Skies policy and it is part of the NNDC Glaven Valley Conservation area. The village itself is also a Conservation Area

The Council has the support of a Clerk who minutes the Council minutes, keeps the Accounts and handles correspondence as required.  We have help from NALC, the Norfolk Association of Local Councils, which provides advice, information and support.

The vacancies will be formally advertised by the North Norfolk District Council Elections Office and later you will be sent a copy of this notice.  In the meantime, please do feel ask any of our Councillors for further information.

If you wish to have an informal chat with one of your existing Councillors about what the role entails, please feel free to ring any one of us:  John Ramm, Chair of the Parish Council, Andrea Beal, Antonia Hardcastle, Martin Pearce, Rachel Pryor

COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE REVIEW – PROPOSED BOUNDARY CHANGE BETWEEN WIVETON PARISH (CO8) AND BLAKENEY PARISH (CO1)

    WIVETON PARISH BOUNDARY REVIEW

    WIVETON PARISH COUNCIL COMMENTS

Wiveton Parish Council considered this at its meeting on Wednesday 21st April and wishes to make the following observations.

It regrets the loss of the land and property proposed in this review by moving the Wiveton boundary towards the east.

There are a number of features which have been historically part of Wiveton e.g. part of the Friary Farm estate including the National Trust Offices. This includes Blakeney Lodge and Blakeney windmill. The latter has been colloquially known as the Wiveton windmill, as it is in the parish of Wiveton.

The Parish Council is concerned about the loss of income to the Parish Council. It has two choices. It would need to increase the Precept demand to the rest of properties in the Parish to maintain the same level of resources. The other option is to reduce the Precept demand so to keep the Parish costs to Wiveton residents the same.

If this is to be the case, we would therefore ask whether NNDC is able to provide some compensation/recompense for this loss. Is there is some provision in the enabling legislation that would allow NNDC to ‘compensate’ Parishes for their losses?

The Parish Council has strong policies to protect the local environment from inappropriate development given the wider policies to safeguard the North Norfolk Coast including those of NNDC. We have applied this to the area of land/property that is being proposed for removal from the Parish. We would seek an assurance that Wiveton Parish Council is consulted on any future planning application on the land/property being removed from but still adjoining our Parish
